Anthraquinone dyes are known for their aristocratic brilliance in certain blue and red regions; however the key intermediate 1-amino anthraquinone requires anthraquinone-1-sulphonic acid, a product generating lot of pollution at the manufacturing stage. Other routes to the dyes based on 1-amino anthraquinone have been actively investigated6. in this connection the most brilliant dioxazine chromophore presents an excellent option7 particularly for the high-fixation reactive dyes as mentioned in 3.1.1. Extended styryl chromophore and benzodifurandione chromophores are the results of these investigations. A summary of these chromophoric systems is presented in chart 3. Further work in this direction may be highly rewarding for the export of reactive dyes and disperse dyes.
