Application of acid dyes to silk:-

Both pure and tin-weighted silk are often dyed with acid dyes. They give the widest range of shades including those with extreme brightness and in some instance even fluorescence. Some simple acid dyes used on silk are : Sulpho Rhodamin B (CI Acid Red 52), Brilliant Sulpho Flavine FFA (CI Acid Yellow 7), Brilliant Millilng Blue BA (CI Acid Blue 15), Brilliant Indocyanine GA (CI Acid Blue 90), Formyl Violet S4BA (CI Violet 17) and Neptune Blue BRA (CI Acid Blue 9). Other acid dyes with very good light fastness can also be selected for silk. The wet fastness of the sample acid dyes on silk is usually adequate and can be improved by aftertreatment with 10-20% of tannic acid and 3-5% of 28% acetic acid in the cold for 1 hr. followed by rinsing and treatment for 30 min. also cold with 5-10% of tartar emetic and final rinsing. Such aftertreatment, however, is unusual.
