Acrylic Staple Fiber

by : --

Acrylic staple fiber production decreased by 5% in 2005 to 2.52 million tons. Production sharply decreased in Korea (down 49%) due to company withdrawals from this business, as well as in the U.S. (down 94%). There were also reports of withdrawals in Mexico and Turkey. Meanwhile, production increased by 11% in Taiwan thanks to favorable exports, and by 4% in ASEAN. Production in Western Europe (the largest producer) remained at about the same level due to a demand recovery in and around the region.
The Japan Chemical Fibers Association reported that the nation’s production of man-made fibers decreased by 3.1% in 2006 from the previous year to 1.21 million tons. Of this, synthetic fibers declined by 2.7% to 1.061 million tons, and cellulosic fibers by 5.9% to 149,000 tons.
By major category, nylon filament production decreased by 0.3% to 118,000 tons. Although demand remained low for apparel applications, industrial material applications were vigorous centering on automobile applications, thus resulting in only a slight decrease.
