
Synthesis of dye

1-Aminoanthraquinone [1] was diazotized using nitrosylsulphuric acid and coupled with 6-amino-N,N- dimethyluracil [5] at pH 4-5. After completion of coupling, the dye was filtered, washed acid free and dried to obtain dye [6].
The product was confirmed as follows.
i. Melting point: 2300C
ii. The elemental analysis was in agreement with the molecular formula C20H15N5O4.
iii. I.R spectra of the product recorded in KBr showed following peaks (in cm-1).
a. Presence of peak at 1664 cm-4 corresponding to (>C=O) group.
b. Presence of peak at 1518 cm-1 corresponding to azo (-N=N-) linkage.
c. Presence of a peak at 3447 cm-1 corresponding to NH2 group.
