Polyester has emerged as the dominant fiber for seat covers at all price levels of the automotive industry, from conventional warp knit fabrics through to novel artificial suedes using microfiber polyester / polyurethane blends which have even started to challenge the up-market leather market. Meeting the demanding standards for light fastness under high temperatures has been a particular challenge for dye producers. In addition to light fastness, it is essential that the quality of standardization of dyes is high enough to ensure consistent shade reproducibility. It is also necessary to employ an intelligent combination of dyes to prevent problems of poor color constancy in the car interior under different light conditions.
